I won NaNoWriMo! AWW YISS BABEY! Ya girl hit her word count goal on Day 9….maybe it counts as day 10? I don’t know. Doesn’t matter. I HIT THAT BITCH LIKE IT OWED ME MONEY.

This, after I took Friday night off for some mental relaxation. Mostly I just slept. I needed a day off, and I kind of felt bad about that? But not anymore! WOO HOO!

I still have nearly 30k left to write on the novel, but I’m going to work on it this Monday – Friday. I’ll only be writing 6k a day, so it shouldn’t be too taxing.

NaNo Word Count Total: 50,139
0 to go for NaNoWriMo (50k goal)
29,861 to go total (80k goal)

I’m not sure how to fill this out online, but here’s the certificate NaNoWriMo gave me for hitting the goal! 😀 I might print it and put it on me wall.

NaNoWriMo: Day 7

Getting to 40,000 words today was a slog, but I managed it!

NaNo Word Count Total: 40,234
9,766 to go for NaNoWriMo (50k goal)
39,766 to go total (80k goal)

I have less than 10,000 words left to write until I hit the NaNoWriMo Goal! YAS! I am also over halfway to my 80k goal, and all this after only one week!

Ya girl is a writing machine. Sometimes when I am FEELING a story I just word vomit everywhere. This has been one of those times. I just finished part two of the story (halfway there!) and it is very dark and very fucked up, but I genuinely am enjoying writing it.

The old version was not enjoyable to write, and I didn’t enjoy rereading it. That’s how I knew it needed completely tossed and restarted. I wouldn’t let my worst enemy read those old 13 chapters. I really wouldn’t.

Compared to this new draft? Apples and bananas, baby. B-A-N-A-N-A-S

NaNoWriMo: Day 6

Almost forgot to update the blog again! I’ve been writing so much that blogging is just not on my mind, I guess.

Anyway, here’s the stats for Haint Blue and NaNoWriMo:

Haint Blue Word Count Total: 33,056
16,944 to go for NaNoWriMo (50k goal)
46,944 to go total (80k goal)

I wrote 7k words today, and I have another 7k to write tomorrow! That should bring me up to 40k! WOO!

Oops! I’ve been lazy about updating the blog on my NaNoWriMo progress on Haint Blue. BUT NO WORRIES! I have been hard at work every single day.

I just finished Day 5 and I am right on track! I wrote 6k today! Yesterday I wrote 5k, and on Sunday I wrote 1k. I hadn’t planned on writing at all on Sunday, but I thought why the hell not?

Anyway, here’s my stats for November 5th (day 5):

  • 26,235 total words
  • 23,765 words to go for NaNoWriMo (50k goal)
  • 53,765 to go until the novel is complete (80k goal)

If I stay on schedule (and I should!) then I should hit my NaNoWriMo goal of 50,000 words on Saturday. I should be done with the novel on the 14th, possibly the 15th, depending on how long my writing session is that day.

I can’t even tell you how much I’m genuinely in love with this story now. Before I was trying to excited about it, but there was just something not quite right about it. Throwing out the bathwater and getting a new baby was the right decision.

I’m so glad I did it. It’s night and day how I feel about this novel now. I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL YOU READ IT.

NaNoWriMo: Day Two

Day 1: November 2nd

Daily Word Count Goal: 8,000 words – (GOAL MET!)

Total NaNo Goal Word Count: 14,556 / 50,000 (35,444 words to go)

Total Word Count: 14,556 / 80,000 (65,444 to go)

I wrote 2k this morning, slept for a while and then spent all evening writing another 6k in order to hit my daily goal. I’m VERY pleased with my progress. 2 days in and I’m already well over 14,000 words, baby!

I may take tomorrow off, but something tells me I might write a little bit more. I’m feeling VERY inspired by this story and I am so freaking glad I chucked the first draft of Haint Blue and went at it again. This version of the story is SO MUCH BETTER. I’m enjoying both writing it and rereading it.

I have an outline for it, but really I’m just freestyling this bitch and getting it where I want it to go by letting the story unfold. The words are just pouring out of me.

Ya’ll I can’t wait for you to read it!

NaNoWriMo Day One

Day 1: November 1st

Daily Word Count: 6,079

Total NaNo Goal Word Count: 6,079 / 50,000 (43,921 words to go)

Total Word Count: 6,079 / 80,000 (73,921 to go)

Note: I’m working toward 2 different word count goals. One is to hit 50k, which is the NaNoWriMo goal. If I hit that, I win NaNo this year, which is cool. The other goal is my ultimate goal, which is 80k and means I will be finished with the novel thereabouts.

Since I’m not writing chapters, I’ve broken my writing up into word count goals only.

  1. 6,000 – DONE
  2. 8,000
  3. 6,000
  4. 6,000
  5. 8,000
  6. 6,000
  7. 6,000
  8. 8,000
  9. 6,000
  10. 6,000
  11. 8,000
  12. 6,000

That’s means it will take me 12 days of writing (12 full sessions) to finish this book.

I do plan to take Sundays off, but I’m writing every single day otherwise. I should have this bitch done by November 13th or 14th, depending on when I get started on my last session. It may run over into the 14th.

So 2 weeks to write a novel. No pressure! However, I’m already feeling much more excited about this version of the story than I ever did version one. I dread writing that. This one feels organic and moody and spooky, which was the tone I wanted all along and just couldn’t grasp in the first version.

I have 6,079 words finished so far, and I’m very happy with my progress. I’m gonna sleep and eat and later tonight (November 1st – 2nd) I’m going to bang out 8,000 words.

Seems like a lot, but I know I can do it easily. It’s just a matter of sitting down and focusing. And I soooo want this novel done! I’m ready bitches!

Oh boy do I have some news for anyone keeping track of me and my progress on Haint Blue right now.

……So the last time I updated I had 13 chapters done and I was sitting at a little over 49,000 words, which was great. I was halfway there.

And then I really reread it and decided that I HATED THE STORY. It was lifeless, and not what I wanted to be writing. That’s why it was so hard for me to start writing in the first place. I just didn’t feel connected to it.

So, at the last minute, I decided to scrap it completely. I signed up for NaNoWriMo and I’m rewriting the ENTIRE NOVEL from scratch.

So Haint Blue Version 2.0 is a go. I started at 3am and I’m already at 3600 words (3600/50,000 baby!)

I already love those 3600 words more than I loved a single sentence of the old version, so I don’t feel bad at all about scrapping it and restarting. Sometimes you have to do that if something isn’t working.

This new version is WORKING for me and it’s working hardcore. Additionally, I’ve completely ditched the formatting. No more chapters. This thing is being told in 4 parts. Each part will be 20k long, with a 80k endgame goal.

I’m going to try and write 6-8k every day until I get this bitch done. I have until the end of the month. HARD DEADLINE for NANO. I know the goal is 50k, but I’m a BEAST and I plan on blowing past that and finishing this motherfucker.

Here’s a tiny peek at the new version: the first line!:

When Amelia Monroe was eight-years-old, a witch spat in her palm.

Love it or what?
